Some of the practical challenges involved in implementation of the SWC component of Wadi are as follows:
- SWC works take up some amount of cultivable land and marginal land-owners are often reluctant to bear this `loss’. The resistance is overcome by demonstrating the clear benefits of SWC, which are far in excess of any benefit to be gained from the marginal loss of cultivable land.
- SWC works have be carefully planned, plot-wise, and works have to be executed according to specifications. As the work is largely manual, there is a tendency to ignore these aspects. SWC works have to be done under supervision of qualified staff.
- Plot-holding families have to be explained the importance of carrying out routine maintenance of all SWC works, especially before the monsoons, and in high rainfall areas.
